Innovation Lab Prototype

Signal Room is a working simulator for practicing judgment under pressure.

A functioning AI-assisted learning prototype that helps learners practice decisions in ambiguous operational moments without turning feedback into a grade.

Build context

This is not a future concept. It is a working prototype.

Signal Room was built for the May 2026 eLearning Academy design challenge focused on vibe-coded eLearning with Claude Design. The challenge became a practical test of how quickly a learning designer could move from idea to functioning prototype using AI-assisted development.

The result is a working operational judgment simulator that now lives inside the Learning Rewired Lab ecosystem.

Origin

Design challenge

Built for the May 2026 eLearning Academy challenge.

Build method

Vibe-coded

Created as an AI-assisted rapid prototyping experiment.

Prototype purpose

Signal Room tests how feedback can coach judgment instead of grading recall.

Modern work rarely fails because people lack information. It often fails because people must make decisions under pressure, ambiguity, incomplete context, and competing priorities. Signal Room turns that problem into an interactive learning experience.

01

Practice ambiguity

Learners respond to incomplete information, competing priorities, and operational uncertainty.

02

Track confidence

The experience asks learners to judge how confident they are before submitting a decision.

03

Coach decision habits

The prototype looks for patterns across verification, escalation, clarity, and risk awareness.

04

Disable scoring

Signal Room avoids turning judgment into a pass/fail memory check.

05

Support language access

The prototype includes English, Plain English, Spanish, and Portuguese support.

06

Prototype the pattern

The larger question is whether this model can become a reusable learning design pattern.

Enter the prototype

Run through Signal Room inside the Lab.

Try it once as a learner. Then run it again as a designer. Look at how the experience handles ambiguity, confidence, escalation, feedback, language support, and the difference between guidance and grading.

As a learner

Where do you hesitate?

Notice where the scenario creates uncertainty, pressure, or competing priorities.

As a designer

Where does feedback coach?

Look for moments where the experience explains the reasoning process instead of simply marking an answer.

As a builder

What should improve next?

Evaluate the scenario logic, visual hierarchy, accessibility, feedback model, and replay value.

This simulation explores judgment, confidence, verification, and escalation without turning feedback into a grade.

Language support includes Plain English, Spanish, and Portuguese so the same judgment practice can support ESL learners.

Design note: Signal Room is a prototype for coaching operational judgment, not grading recall. The goal is to make feedback feel like guidance instead of a receipt.

Prototype notes

Want the design rationale? Open the layers worth inspecting.

Signal Room is meant to be used first, then analyzed. These notes explain what the prototype is testing without making every visitor read the whole design essay before entering the room.

What this prototype is really testing

Signal Room tests whether scenario-based learning can coach judgment instead of simply checking recall. The experience focuses on ambiguity, confidence calibration, escalation, verification, and feedback that explains the reasoning process.

Judgment practice

Learners respond to incomplete information, competing priorities, and operational pressure.

Coaching feedback

Feedback explains what shaped the decision instead of simply marking an answer right or wrong.

Confidence calibration

The prototype asks learners to judge how confident they are before submitting a decision.

Language access

English, Plain English, Spanish, and Portuguese modes support more than one kind of learner.

How this fits the Learning Rewired Lab ecosystem

Signal Room is an Innovation Lab artifact because it sits between idea and reusable pattern. It started as a working prototype, but the larger opportunity is turning the interaction model into a Resource Lab pattern or Field Guide companion.

Perspective

The argument: feedback should coach judgment, not grade memory.

Prototype

The experiment: build a simulator that lets learners practice messy decisions.

Pattern

The reusable piece: confidence checks, judgment profiles, and coaching feedback.

Product layer

The future: scenario systems that live closer to operational work.

What should improve in the next version

The current version proves the interaction model. The next version should improve the scenario depth, visual hierarchy, accessibility, replay value, and the usefulness of the coaching feedback.

Scenario depth

Add richer context, stronger stakes, and more realistic operational tradeoffs.

Feedback model

Make the coaching more specific to the learner’s choices and confidence pattern.

Accessibility

Review keyboard flow, focus states, reduced motion, contrast, and screen reader support.

Replay value

Add alternate paths, more signals, and different judgment profiles.

Signal Room

A working experiment in judgment-centered learning design.

Signal Room is now embedded inside Learning Rewired Lab as a working prototype. Use it, inspect it, and treat the design notes as the expandable lab notebook behind the artifact.
